look at the birds of the air

I got a follow-up from a job I interviewed for on Friday. The hiring manager said they “are seriously considering me for the position” but he has another interview this week and will call me on Monday. It’s no offer, but in my experience any kind of follow-up from an interviewer is a good thing. No communication = kiss of death when looking for a job. Anyway, it seems like it could be a very cool position with a lot of potential for growth. It’s got terrific benefits too. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I also have a really good lead on a place to live. It’s a garden apartment owned by an older woman in Raleigh. The former tenant knows my Dad, heard I was looking for a place and put in a good word for me with the landlord. It’s in a nice section of town and is right in my price range. I’m going to go see it tomorrow before homegroup. Hopefully I’ll like it and she’ll like me and it’ll be a done deal. Hopefully.

Finding a new job and a new place have been the main things on my mind for the past few weeks so if these opportunities happen I’ll be sooo relieved. I almost don’t want to talk about them or get my hopes up too much because neither is even close to being solid, but honestly I don’t really care. For today, the hopes are up. If things don’t work out I’ll survive and figure something else out.

I was reminded of this passage several times today:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
